Digger's Bluff

Digger's Bluff

These are full flavoured reds that we firsdigger's logot tried in 2008 and we have been trying to make a space for them ever since as the GSM , the Shiraz and the Cabernet all " over deliver " at their pricing point and will cellar well for a good 10 years

The background of Digger's Bluff is unique and we encourage you to look at that web site for the story of a vineyard that may well set some hard goals for others to match.

Hurley Vineyard

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

We always say that we are in a very privileged position in that we have a Wine Club and a significant proportion of our clientele that know their wine and are interested in expanding their knowledge base. As such, Hurley vineyard was actually a recommendation from a regular customer and wine club member.

Inghams Skilly Ridge

Clare Valley, South Australia

Inghams Skilly Ridge Clark Ingham established his winery in 1994 and quickly established quality vines producing typical Clare Valley luscious fruit. All of the wines have full fruit flavours and careful use of American oak in the red wines has allowed the fruit to remain very evident both to the palate and nose. Most of these vintages were exported to Europe and only a small percentage was retained for domestic consumption hence quantities are relatively small. The Tempranillo in particular has been most successful at several domestic and international wine shows as well as receiving top marks from Australian Gourmet Traveller Magazine.

Their wines are typical cool climate style with emphasis on quality rather than quantity with the Pinots in particular being outstanding examples of what a cool region can produce given careful use of even base material and the right weather!

All of their wines are keenly priced and we note that the added advantage of their Guest House on the vineyard encourages people to explore this up and coming Victorian region.

Mongrel Creek

Margaret River, Western Australia

In addition to the name, the thing that really attracted us to Mongrel Creek's wines was their motto -"No Pretence, no bullshit" - a refreshing theme! The name essentailly comes from a creek that has played havoc with the vineyard. For 3 years running the only access to their home was washed away by the ravaging winter waters.A lone blackboy growing in the middle of the creek is all that was left standing.

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

We are pleased to stock a new Pinot Gris from a small vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula called Phaedrus. Owner/winemaker Maïtèna grew up on a vineyard, while partner Ewan had always appreciated wine. It was only a matter of time until they decided to create Phaedrus in 1997.

Possums Vineyard

McLaren Vale, South Australia

Possums vineyard originated from a clever play on words. When you put Owners Dr John Possingham with partner Carol Summers, you get a lovely and fantastically valued wine from the heart of McLaren Vale.

Rahona Valley

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

Rahona Valley Label

Rahona Valley Vineyard, in Red Hill, is just over an hours drive south of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. Red Hill overlooks Mount Martha and Port Phillip Bay in the west and Point Leo and Westernport Bay in the east.

Starting from scratch in 1991, the north facing 1.6 hectare vineyard surrounded by bushland now has approximately 5000 hand tended wines of mostly Pinot Noir grapes with a small block of Pinot Meunier.  The condition are excellent for Pinot : Deep well drained red basalt soil, cool maritime climate and along ripening period.

All Rahona Valley wines are estate grown and made and we range the Pinot Noir the Pinot Meuniere as well as a " new " Sparkling white that is very impressive and of very limited availability ; we think that John Salmon made this wine for himself initially and only by some arm twisting did we get a small allocation !

Rogues Lane Vineyard

Heathcote, Victoria

This was a wine that was " found " by a Customer and who then asked us to range the two in the series and of course we were pleased to do so and even more so when we had been given samples by Dr Eric Dowker the Owner of this quite amazing vineyard

Now  is the time for you to try these wines before anybody else finds out about these very serious wines!!

Russell Wines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Russell logoThe best thing is to quote John Russell at this point :

"Along with music, wine has long been a passion of mine. When I first came to the Barossa to start a music festival I fell in love with the region and its lifestyle, and was inspired to become a grape grower and winemaker. I invite you to share in this journey and enjoy the wines created from our own vineyards. "

Savaterre

Savaterre

Savaterre owned and operated by Keppell Smith is located very close to the Victorian Alps at Beechworth and provides perhaps one of the very best Pinots in Australia as well as a luscious Chardonnay.

No exoense is spared in both the growing and production of these wines with very select pruning taking place to maximise both flavour and style.

Production is very limited with most of the wines being allocated annually to Quantas for First Class passengers and the rest of us share in the remainder !

Savaterre

Beechworth, Victoria

Savaterre Pinot Noir is one of the benchmarks Pinots in Australia.

Keppell Smith was taught how to make wines by Phillip Jones of Bass Phillip so it is hardly surprising that he can make Pinot! It is also wonderful to see a slight vintage variation in both the Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir with the 2006 of both wines being just outstanding.

Schubert Estate

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Schubert Estate LogoSchubert Estate THE GOSLING. This 100% Shiraz was introduced to the Schubert family and friends a few years back as a non-vintage M.R.S. (Mates Rates Shiraz). Its easy drinking style soon caught on with those who were introduced to the wine. The popularity of the Goose-yard Block wines soon convinced the Schuberts to introduce their second wine (screw cap closure) - The Gosling. It has developed into a more stylish wine with the 2005 receiving 92 points from Halliday it's a fine addition to the Schubert Estate stable.

Silkwood

Pemberton, Western Australia

This is a new vineyard for us and recommened by a holidaying West Australian here for a bit of a  break and we are most grateful to her for the suggestion as this is quite a find in that most difficult of things ; a wine that over delivers for the price and that is so true of the ' second label ' of this winery : Dingo Creek.

The Dingo Creek wines offer fine everyday drinking with a fruit driven SB and then a blend in the red with both sure to please at a price of $10 !

Small Gully Wines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

This was our find of 2008 and we are so pleased that others have agreed with our selection as we cannot keep enough in stock and people will tell others where they bought it despite our attempts to keep this winery under our hat !

Stephen Black was a Pharmacist and obviously has a great sense of humour as all of his wines have a presciption style label and wording !

Let's look at the wines :

Smidge Wines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

SMidge Logo' Our name was inspired from the numerous times waiters, friends and even ourselves who have offered that last smidge in the bottle. Now it also captures our vision for quality where each wine must be of such an exceptional standard that you won't resist another smidge, and equally, as a micro producer it reflects the volumes we make... and yes, we'll only ever have a smidge available! '

St Imre Wines

Dover, Tasmania

st imreA small vineyard that may just be the most southern vineyard in Australia producing a Preservative Free Pinot Noir and a minimal additive Chardonnay.

These wines are from a vineyard that can freeze in winter so it is safe to say that this is a cool climate area.................

St Laurence Bay

Marlborough, New Zealand

A new and exciting sauvignon blanc from Marlborough has been added to our range! This 2009 reserve selection sauvignon blanc shows all the typical and expected characteristics of the varietal, such as passionfruit and gooseberry flavours. At less than $15, it represents fantastic value for money and is a wine that can be enjoyed over the next two years.

Stumpy Gully Wines

Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

This Moorooduc vineyard is planted soley to red varieties, or at least it was! However, they now also produce a Pinot Grigio, a Sauvignon Blanc, and a Chardonnay.

Three Wishes Vineyard

Tamar Valley, Tasmania

Three Wishes VineyardThe Whish - Wilson Family have perhaps one of the most beautiful settings ever for a vineyard and should be seen to be believed!

They produce a Pinot Noir , a Chardonnay and an amazing Riesling with the latter perhaps to become the benchmark for this vineyard as Peter WW always seems to have fun getting it to ripen and reading his comments on thier web site is always amusing.

Tomboy Hill

Ballarat, Victoria

This is one of THE pinots of Australia - James Halliday rated this Pinot as his best !

There are 4 in their range of Pinot Noir with the The Tomboy being a single vineyard wine and The Rebellion being a blend from other Ballarat vineyards yet both are such nice wines ! We have also recently received some Ava's Picking and Smythes Creek, which are both sensational.

The Chardonnay is also available in several ways with the principal winebeing the Goldfields and again the Rebellion in this series again being a local blend.

Whistler Wines

Barossa Valley, South Australia

Whistler WinesWhistler Wines is owned and operated by the Pfeiffer Family and Whistler is a direct translation of the German "Pfeiffer"; all of these wines demonstrate why some judges declare the Barossa Valley to be the finest area in Australia for great wine - they are full flavoured yet balanced without the need to be super aggressive which is a common fault of many producers - the Semillon and the GSM are both Parker rated with scores of 90 and 88 respectively.

By far our biggest selling wine is the Hubert Irving blend of red wines that the Consumer recognises as being superb value for money and of course there is also that dozen discount !

After you have been hooked by the Hubert Irving you then naturally gravitate to the rest of the wines in the range as this is a vineyard that over delivers in all of its' products no matter if you are trying the Semillon or the Shiraz.

This is a great range of wines but when we have the Reserve Shiraz that is the time to really stock up and we have just a few left !

This is a vineyard where you just admire all the wines and buy them often !
