Kangaroo Island, South Australia
The Bay of Shoals vineyard is located at Kingscote on Kangaroo Island, which was also the location of the first settlement in South Australia. The vineyard has carried on this theme of maritime history, with the farm one of the first farms in SA, and the cottages having a Heritage listing. The pelican represented on their labels serve as a further reminder of their maritime past.
Five hectares each of Shiraz, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc make up the 25ha vineyard, with an additional area dedicated to olive trees producing table olives. Our picks were definitely the 2008 Chardonnay and the 2008 Riesling - both were unique and fantastic varietal examples. Additionally, they were very well-priced and offered something different to the average wine drinker. The Chardonnay was also given great praise by James Halliday in his 2010 Wine Companion were he stated that it was "very good value" and awarded it with a score of 93 points. The vineyard itself is a 4.5 star rated vineyard.
Over the last few weeks, both wines have been increasingly popular with our customer base, further highlighting the quality of these wines.
